Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

The Magnificent Seven is written by Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk. The score is by James Horner and Simon Franglen. The film is a production of LStar Capital, Village Roadshow Pictures, Pin High Productions, and Escape Artists, and will be distributed my Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Columbia Pictures. Principal photography on The Magnificent Seven began in May 2015 in Louisiana and wrapped in August 2016.

The original Magnificent Seven is a classic western released in 1960. The film was directed by John Sturges and starred Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, and Horst Buchholz. The original itself was an Old West reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s iconic samurai film Seven Samurai.

The Magnificent Seven opens in theaters September 23, 2016.

For too long, a toxic combination of anti-LGBTQ hate and easy access to guns has put LGBTQ people at disproportionate risk of violence and murder. On June 12, forty-nine innocent people — most of them Latinx — were killed at Pulse nightclub in Orlando simply because of who they were. It’s on all of us to keep their memories alive, and to ensure part of their legacy becomes meaningful action to end hate violence. Join the Human Rights Campaign and urge your legislator to support legislation that will ensure LGBTQ people are safe and equal in every community and find out how to support the survivors and families of the Orlando victims. Matt, John Boy is terrifying without saying anything, just in his demeanour. Was that great to bring to life?
Matt Bomer: Oh yeah, I mean it is always fun to paint with different colours and play these kind of roles you aren’t typically thin-sliced as, and to do it with these people. I am essentially a fan boy who is lucky to be along for the ride. Shane and Joel are a huge part of my cinematic upbringing: to watch two of my favourite actors create this incredible symbiotic comedic performance where one doesn’t work without the other and every take is different, it was just an incredible education for me.

RC: I could have made it work without Ryan (laughter).

We have been talking about the actors, what was it like, Matt, to throw a 13 year old girl through a window?
MB: Angorie is such a consummate professional that, you know, it was the first thing I filmed and I had to throw a young girl through a window and I immediately felt the need to ingratiate myself to these young girls, and that I was a parent and it was just pretend and they just stared at me blankly and were like, so? Throw me through the window, what you got? That’s it? I want another take! So yeah, they took me to school.
