It’s a Bomerland this week! Earlier today Matt visited Good Morning America, for another – and solo, this time – interview.
In an interview with “Good Morning America”’s co-anchor Robin Roberts, Bomer, 37, revealed that he got carried away at his sister’s wedding shortly after completing the indie hit that tells the behind-the-scenes story of male strippers.
“At the reception dance, I started to bust out some ‘Magic Mike’ moves, just some gyrations, some- – you know, letting it all hang out there. And I realized that my cousins were like, ‘Whoa, dude. Like, can you not do that at your sister’s wedding reception?’” he said, laughing. “I was like, ‘You know what? I should probably pull back on these.’”
Bomer reprises the role of Ken – the spiritual stripper who moonlights as an actor – in “Magic Mike XXL,” the sequel to hit, and the actor told Roberts that the cast truly enjoyed spending time together.
“I mean, I think it all starts with (co-star) Channing (Tatum),” he said. “He’s an incredible leader who treats everyone with some equanimity. And I think also just there’s a solidarity and a bond that forms when you have to get naked together in front of groups of strangers.”
Bomer also revealed that he sings in this film, thanks to Tatum — who plays Magic Mike. The original film was loosely based on Tatum’s real-life experience as a male stripper.
“(Tatum) wanted everybody to get a chance to shine in this movie and do something unique to them,” Bomer said. “And he said going into the movie he knew that it was going to be road trip movie and that I was going to sing. That was our starting template.”

ET’s Nischelle Turner paid a visit to Magic Mike XXL set and talked to Matt which has finally mastered a far more important skill since the first film: putting on a thong.
“They were homemade so there were no tags and it was my first time putting one on,” Bomer told ET in 2012. “All the holes looked the same.” When the actor recalled the mishap to ET on the set of XXL, he assured us he knows what he’s doing this time around. “I think now I’m ready to go,” he said. “I’m ready. No assistance required.”
As for just how far Bomer and company push the boundaries in the sequel? Expect the unexpected. “I think people are going to be surprised by what they expect which is my favorite way to experience a sequel,” Bomer said.

Congratulations to Matt for winning Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or Miniseries for “The Normal Heart”, which also won Best Movie! We’re so happy for both you and the film for getting this much deserved recognition.

Actor Matt Bomer talks to Gold Derby editor Daniel Montgomery about his role on “The Normal Heart” as AIDS-afflicted journalist Felix Turner. Watch him discuss his personal connection to the material, what it was like to meet Larry Kramer for the first time, working in Hollywood as an openly gay actor, and of course the perils of wifi in New York City.
